So, I've been sitting at home a lot this week, and I have a new favorite television show.... It's going to surprise anyone who knows me, because I don't give a damn about football.
I am completely in love with "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Kansas City Chiefs." It has re-affirmed for me that football is basically a fraternity for giants, but I have somehow come away from the whole viewing experience completely endeared to the team and with a more open mind about football in general.
First of all, the photography in this series is AMAZING. Obviously who would know how to make a television show about football better than NFL films, but I can't get over the production value. It makes every other reality show look disgusting (which of course, they are.) But NFL films has taken reality television to high art with "Hard Knocks" and even a non-football fan can enjoy the show. I was so sucked in that I found myself experiencing real pathos when the team didn't win their pre-season matches, and I'm the girl who is perfectly happy to spend the Super Bowl perfecting the art of the appetizer and only wandering out of the kitchen for the commercials. Good work, HBO.
